RR15 First Test
February 23, 2015
Our reading week break at Carleton has come and passed, and with it a few major milestones for the RR15.
Following the completion of our rolling chassis earlier in the month we have pushed hard to get the car running and ready to test. This included mounting and plumbing our fuel and coolant systems, intake and exhaust, and driver controls.
On February 14, at 11:30pm the RR15 ran under its own power for the first time. On a snow covered icy parking lot we pulled a few turns and braking tests to make sure everything was working as expected.
Over the following days we worked on engine tuning, sensor installation and data acquisition set-up, and some troubleshooting from our first run. On February 21, the RR15 ran its second test and first skid-pad.
The crazy amount of ice and snow prevented us from getting any usable skid-pad times, but it sure was fun drifting sideways in the snow.
Next up, running electric car!
